The cane bolt works on a gravity-assisted mechanism. To lock a gate, the user lowers the rod into the receiver, where its weight keeps the gate firmly in place. This prevents the gate from swinging due to wind, vibration, or its own weight. To unlock, the handle is lifted, raising the rod out of the receiver, allowing the gate to move freely.
