Washer Head Lags are a type of fastener with a built-in washer head, designed to be driven into pre-drilled holes in wood or with lag screw shields in a variety of materials. Washer Head Lag Bolts, or commonly referred to as “Lag Screws”, feature a Type 17 cutter tip and are available in several finishes: Zinc plated, Yellow Zinc plated and Treated Lumber coating. We offer a 1/4″ bolt that has a 5/8″ O.D. washer and we offer a 5/16″ bolt that has a 3/4″ O.D. washer. Lag bolts are sold in full boxes only. Box quantities may vary.
Washer head lag screws are used for attaching materials to wood, especially in wood-to-wood connections in exterior structural applications. They are also used in high torque applications. Washer head lag screws offer the contractor a fastener that functions much like a conventional lag but with a build in washer for superior pull down force. By placing a flat washer between the lag screw head and the wood surface, the load is spread, dramatically decreasing the surface pressure. This action protects the wood’s structural integrity, minimizes material damage, and helps maintain the necessary tension for a secure joint. The increased bearing area is particularly important in softer woods, such as pine or cedar, or in high-stress applications like attaching deck ledger boards.
